Barclodiad y Gawres

Barclodiad-y-Gawres is a chambered cairn from the Neolithic period, about 2500 B.C. The cover has been reconstructed and inside the large stones are protected from the weather. There are six stones with carvings on them, five are very distinct and the sixth stone was verified in 2006.

The cairn is considered a cruciform passage grave. The passages are arranged in a cross shape layout. The entrance is at the base of the shaft of the cross. During excavation, evidence of cremation was found in the form of cremated bones.
